New This Week: May 3, 2006

Based on the NCRL list for this week's comics shipping from Diamond, here are a few things to look for at the local comic shop tomorrow:

The Pick of the Week is the finale of DC's Infinite Crisis. Worlds will live, worlds will die, etc. etc. Sure to both delight and enrage fanboys in equal quantities (and sometimes within the same person!)

In other comics:

Amaze Ink have the fourth issue of super-cool librarian Rex Libris.

Antarctic have the fourth issue of Rod Espinosa's Alice in Wonderland adaptation, plus the 75th issue of Fred Perry's Gold Digger.

Archaia Studios have the second issue of Mouse Guard.

Boom! Studios have the second issue of War of the Worlds: Second Wave.

Dark Horse have the second issue of BPRD: Universal Machine; a collection of Concrete: The Human Dilema; and the 3rd volume of one of my favorite current manga series, Eden.

DC have collections of Gotham Central (vol. 3) and Sandman Mystery Theatre (vol. 4), two great books that you should have been reading, but now have a second chance. There are also new issues of Action Comics (#838), Detective Comics (#819), JSA (#85), Justice League Unlimited (#21), Swamp Thing (#27), and Y, the Last Man (#45).

Digital Manga have the second Robot anthology.

Fantagraphics have a new issue of Love & Rockets (vol. 2 #16).

Image have their debut of the former Speakeasy title Rocketo (#7). Which is cool if you read the trade and are up to speed; however, if you were trying to read it in floppies you're screwed, because issues #5-6 were never published...

Marvel kick off Infinite Crisis Civil War, their big crossover event for the summer. There's also a third Hulk Visionaries: Peter David volume; a collection of Punisher Max: The Slavers; and new issues of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (#8), The Punisher (#33), and Ultimate Spider-Man (#94).

TokyoPop have the 13th Kindaichi Case Files: House of Wax.

Viper have a new issue of The Middleman (#2.3).

Which brings us to the end of another week in comics. Enjoy!

Man-Bat #1With Hellblazer & Batman among his faves, Kevin seems like a good bet to like Man-Bat. So I'm sending Kevin the first issue of the 1996 Man-Bat mini by Chuck Dixon, Flint Henry & Eduardo Barreto; as well as the first issue of the new Man-Bat mini by Bruce Jones & Mike Huddleston.

Monkey Covers

Sunday is Monkey Covers day here at YACB. Because there's nothing better than a comic with a monkey on the cover.

A monkey on a moped? Cool! (And alliterative!) It's from the cover of Knights of the Dinner Table #90.

Don't forget, Free Comic Book Month 2 starts tomorrow, so get your entry in soon!

May is Free Comic Book Month 2 at YACB!

Last year's Free Comic Book Month was a smash success, so I'm doing it again this year!

May 6 is Free Comic Book Day, but here at YACB one day isn't good enough. We'll be giving away free comics every day of May!

That's right, free comics! Each day of May I'll pick someone to receive a free comic, taken from my personal collection: duplicates, things I have in trades, and other stuff. My goal is to match up people with a comic that they haven't read but that they may like. My tastes are wide and varied, so chances are I've got a comic for you.

And by free I mean free. Really. No cost, no shipping & handling, all free.

Here's what you need to do to enter:

By email, send me the following:

* Your name
* Your postal address
* Titles of five comics that you like
* Please include 'FCBM' in the subject line

That's it! For every day of May I'll choose at least one entry and try to match up that person with a comic, then I'll mail the comic to him or her. It's easy, and it's free!

Last year I gave away over 100 comics to 50 different people; I hope to meet or exceed that number this year.

Of course, there are a few restrictions:

* You must be 18 or older
* You must live in the United States
* You may enter at any point during May, but only one entry per person.

And a little bit of fine print:

* Persons receiving comics are chosen by me, based on whether I feel I can provide a comic to you
* I'll try my best, but there's no guarantee you'll actually like the comic I send
* All winners will be announced here on Yet Another Comics Blog
* At least one winner will be selected each day, but it may take me a few days to get to the post office, so please be patient
* I will not use your address to spam you, nor sell or give your information to others

The Goon 25¢ EditionBut wait, there's more!

Each person who has a free comic chosen for him/her will also receive a copy of either The Goon 25¢ Edition, or the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic/Rebellion Flip Book.

That's right, two free comics! How could you ask for anything more?

So what are you waiting for? Send in your entry today!
